One point made/brought up by Prof. DeVries in her debriefing of the visit with His Eminence was that "official" dialogues often fail/stick (Protestant walkout in 2000 over Jubilee indulgences, for instance) on the rarified, finer points, while work on the ground between (in this case) Prots and RCs is in many cases very successful.
So: are the big issues really the Big Issues? What holds groups apart may be in fact so minute/dogmatic differences that have little real-life application...
